How ratings work

The number you see is earned, not gamed.

Leaderboard

The formula

WR = (v รท (v+m)) ร— R + (m รท (v+m)) ร— C

  • v โ€” weighted votes on the dish
  • m โ€” votes needed before a dish owns its number (8)
  • R โ€” the dish's tier-weighted average
  • C โ€” platform mean, currently 7

A dish with two ratings can't sit at 9.8. Until it has real weighted volume, its score is pulled toward the platform mean โ€” so a high number always means something.

Four signal tiers

  • Top 1,000 raters ร—3.0

Earned automatically by volume, spread, breadth and community trust.

  • External sources ร—1.5

Yelp, TripAdvisor, Food Network, Eater and Michelin mentions, used as an anchor.

  • Verified raters ร—1.2

Verified Rater status โ€” honest spread across enough ratings.

  • Community ร—1.0

Everyone else. Still counted, just not amplified.

Skewed accounts stay visible but weigh zero. Everyone else counts โ€” some just count more.

How the Top 1,000 is chosen
